Climate Café® Abbey in Cambridge started up in March 2024 as part of Abbey People’s growing Sustainability and Greenspaces community programme.
Our Climate Café® aims to create a welcoming space for people in the community to join the conversation about climate change, nature, and the local environment in the Abbey ward of Cambridge, UK.
Climate Café® Abbey is open to everyone and people of all ages, and we are currently trying out different days and times of the week to see what works best for people in the Abbey community. So far, we have hosted Climate Cafes at the East Barnwell Community Centre and Barnwell Road Library.

Inspired by Dunkeld & Birnam’s Climate Cafe®, for our first Climate Café® in March 2024, everyone was invited to create flags for our Climate Bunting that would be displayed at our future sustainability events.
What do you love about the environment? Why do you care about nature? Why is climate change important to you? While thinking and chatting about these questions, everyone designed their own bunting flags inspired by the discussions and their interests.

We find that these kinds of creative activities that individuals can do, really help people to feel more comfortable and less anxious while coming to a new event and meeting new people. Craftivist Collective share lots of brilliant ideas that have inspired us including craft activities you can run, as well as how to create a welcoming environment at events like Climate Cafes.
The Climate Bunting has been spotted at our Repair Cafes, Climate Cafes and biodiversity days, and people love to spot the unique flags that they made.
