Climate Café® Breadalbane

Climate Café® Breadalbane

Climate Café® Breadalbane is a youth-led cafe in Aberfeldy. It is coordinated by the pupils of Breadalbane Academy and science teacher Mr Clark. We have been established for a few years.

Over the time we have been getting together, we have attended the Perth and Kinross Climate Youth Conference a few times, and there we have spoken and also heard speeches from other schools which gave us inspiration for new projects to improve our schools sustainability.

We have also had water bottles made personally for Breadalbane by Aberfeldy Workshop in hope to reduce plastic waste further at school. We also had a sustainable fashion show in collaboration with Grandtully primary in which we talked about the problem with fast fashion.

Recently, Climate Café® Crieff High were particularly inspiring with their plastic water bottle survey, and led us to hope to make changes in the amount of plastic bottles used at Breadalbane in the coming term.

Over our time as a Climate Café® Breadalbane, we have reduced the amount of plastic waste produced by our school by talking to Tayside contracts and asking them to remove packaging from cupcakes and other things that didn’t need to be wrapped.

In the future we hope to improve the water fountains at our school so people don’t have to buy bottles to get cold water.
