Climate Café® Dundee – Climate Café®

Welcome to Climate Café^® Dundee, launching at Dundee Rep, last Wednesday of the month from 10.30 am to 12 noon.

Climate Café® Dundee has been going since August 2023, we meet on the last Wednesday of every month at 10.30am – 12 noon at the Dundee Rep and Scottish dance Theatre. Everyone gets free refreshments and pastries. Our demographic is from early twenties to late seventies.

This Climate Café® was started because we at the theatre have a great passion to protect the planet. Our aim is to reduce the damage our business can do. The Café is a great way to meet likeminded organisations and individuals who want to do right by reducing carbon emissions.

July 2026: Climate Café® Dundee was joined by Dominic Hinde.

Writer and sociologist Dominic Hinde spent two years on the road around Scotland with one aim: To work out what the story of climate change is in Scotland, and what that means for the world at large. A nominee for the 2026 Highland Book Prize and Wainwright Prize for Conservation Writing, his book ’Drifting North’ has been described as ’expansive’, ’necessary’ and ’poetic’ by reviewers and critics.

Dominic is a senior lecturer (Associate Professor) at the University of Glasgow in the school of Social and Political Science. He is also a translator, journalist and essayist.’

Update from Climate Café® Dundee (June 2026):

It has been a busy time in for Climate Café Dundee recently, what with you ask yourself:

January 2026 : We had Russell Pepper talking about the Dighty Burn project & Angela Houghton from Changemakers came along to explain what they are doing with the community.

February 2026: Dr Harry Watkins – St Andrews Botanic Gardens has just won a highly commended in the Architect’s Journal Adaptive Reuse category for building reuse. Cost was £250k.

March 2026: We were helping Andrew Low of Dundee Contemporary Arts by making suggestions for a 2^nd animated film, which will be supported by organisation “Options in Life”

April 2026: Climate Café® Dundee, Changemakers and Dundee rep worked in partnership to bring together an Election Hustings in April, where we invited into the theatre our local candidates that were standing for re-election as MSPs. We had four candidates:

Maggie Chapman – The Green Party

Martyn knights – Liberal Party

Cllr Heather Anderson – SNP Party

Cheryl Ann Cruickshank – Scottish Labour Dundee East.

The audience was made up of people of all ages from around Dundee and our lovely host on the Day was Kath Mainland CBE.

The purpose was to ask the MSPs a variety of Questions on the topics of Climate Crisis and Social Justice. The questions were answered thoroughly to the point we ran out of time and had no further time to do open questions. The audience left happy and some reeling about the questions asked. Several people spoke to the MSPs afterwards and had their questions answered. Below are a few photos of the event.

April 2026 – On our normal Climate Café® Dundee date we went over Scotland’s Climate Change Plan and we fed back comments to Scottish Government and the Scottish Parliament directly and via the Climate Café® Network (Scotland).

May 2026 – was a fun packed day we had a double bill for Climate Café® Dundee.

In the morning we had a young man called Alex Wright join us. Alex is making it his mission to clean Dundee of rubbish. He has a blog on Instagram and so we joined him in a litter pick around the theatre, we were joined by Cllr Michael Crichton. Then had a well-deserved cuppa and listened to some of his stories.
