Climate Café® Ticino, Switzerland, has been holding monthly events since the beginning of 2025.
We got started thanks to some input from Jess who visited Lugano in the summer of 2024 and with the help of Impact Hub Lugano , who have provided us with the venue.
So far, the events have been characterized by presentations of local projects and networking. A pilot project on balcony solar panels would be the first initiative inspired by Climate Cafe® Ticino and it should start at the beginning of 2026.
We are now actively working with OK Clima which promotes political activities designed to help local councils use their funding for local environmental projects more effectively. We are supporting initiatives concerned with permaculture and food waste. We hope to hold more events this year in other cities in Canton Ticino as we have also received some funding recently.
Iniziativa Permafrost (Above): We are supporting a national initiative called the Permafrost Initiative, sponsored by the Swiss association for climate protection, which aims to force the government to recognize the need to recognize the importance of imported emissions when creating new plans for climate mitigation and adaptation.

We are currently trying to promote balcony solar panels in some councils in Ticino. Together with one council and the local university of applied sciences we have a project for the promotion and testing of BSPs but have not received the funds we were expecting from a government initiative (Swiss Energy). We are hoping to receive a cantonal grant soon however.
Together with Swiss association, OK Clima and WWF, we are conducting a review of local energy plans with the aim of persuading local councils to upgrade them as many are not fit for purpose.
