Sustaining Hope with Eco-Congregations

1st June 2024

The Climate Café®  movement already involves many churches in creating a welcoming, informal pop up space, bringing people together to chat and act on climate change.

In May 2024, Climate Café® Director, Jess was delighted to join the Eco-Congregations Scotland AGM as keynote speaker, to share insights into the movement and opportunities for more congregations to engage – within the congregation or sharing space for Climate Cafés to bring people together from across the community to drink, chat and act on climate.

Lucy Le Roux, Christian Aid Scotland Campaigns and Advocacy Coordinator also updated Eco-Congregation Scotland members on campaigning. A panel discussion with friends in Scottish Fair Trade featured discussion about ideas and inspiration for collaboration and community led chat and action, fuelled by fair trade tea and coffee!

The Eco-Congregations Scotland AGM featured a host of practical speakers inspiring action, with Karen Hind, Cherish Support Officer from National Churches Trust, on “Proactive Maintenance”; Scottish Episcopal Church Net Zero team’s Empowerment Coordinator Dr Bethany Nelson; and Judith Macleod, Church of Scotland Probationer Minister, with a climate justice resource for congregations in partnership with Scottish Fair Trade and Christian Aid.

Diverse local churches were able to share their own work, growing faith-inspired action in their own communities and participate in active workshops, sharing new materials and resources.

Watch this space for future collaboration and connections with Eco-Congregations Scotland.
